Aristote close up

Aristote's Story

The tranquil care centre that is currently home to 12 year old Aristote, in the rolling green hills a short way out of Kinshasa, is an ideal setting for the healing and restoration of a young boy horribly abused under the accusation of being a ‘child witch'.

Aristote's mother, extremely poor and with 8 other children to care for, had sent Aristote to live with his aunt and uncle. When things didn't go well in the relative's home, they accused Aristote of being a ‘witch' and took him to be ‘treated' by a ‘prophetess'. Aristote was burned over a fire and locked up for 4 months with little food. When Aristote's mum wasn't allowed to see her son she became suspicious, and thankfully managed to get him released. He was malnourished, traumatised and initially unable to walk.

With help from BCT's partner project EPED, Aristote has received hospital treatment for his severe burn injuries, and his physical and emotional healing is continuing at the care centre. He's made a good friend there and has decided he wants to be a motor mechanic when he grows up.

But it's Aristote's own words that are the most compelling testimony to the potential for his full and deep restoration: "I'm asking God to forgive the people that did these things to me."
